  • In the 2022-23 academic year, 351 scholarships were granted to AMU students.

The Aligarh Alumni Association of Washington, DC (AAA-DC) has been a steadfast supporter of educational excellence, particularly through its robust scholarship programs. Here’s an engaging overview of these initiatives:​

Overview:

Since its inception in 1975, AAA-DC has been committed to uplifting academically talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Our scholarship programs are meticulously designed to alleviate financial burdens, enabling students to focus on their academic and professional aspirations.

Key Highlights:

  • Recognizing the rising costs of education, we've elevated our scholarship awards from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 per student, ensuring more comprehensive support.
  • In the 2022-23 academic year alone, we awarded 351 scholarships, totaling ₹52 lakh (approximately $64,515). Cumulatively, since 1976, over 45,000 scholarships have been granted, paving the way for countless success stories.
  • Our scholarships have empowered a wide array of professionals, including doctors, Unani medicine practitioners (tibs), dentists, nurses, scientists, engineers, IT specialists, lawyers, economists, and educators.

Selection Process:

We uphold a rigorous selection methodology to ensure that scholarships are awarded to the most deserving candidates:

  • Candidates submit their applications through our dedicated portal, www.aligarhscholarships.us.
  • The Muslim Social Uplift Society (MSUS) in Aligarh meticulously reviews applications, gathering pertinent information on each applicant.
  • Applicants are evaluated based on a composite index that weighs merit at 60% and financial need at 40%.
  • Shortlisted candidates undergo interviews conducted by a panel of esteemed AMU faculty members, ensuring a holistic assessment.
  • The AAA-DC Scholarship Committee, in collaboration with our Board of Trustees, finalizes the list of scholarship recipients.

Funding Opportunities:

Our scholarship programs are sustained through the generosity of donors:

  • A donation of $3,000 establishes a lifetime scholarship, awarding ₹15,000 annually to a student. Donors have the privilege to specify criteria for these scholarships.
  • Contributions of any size are pooled, and for every $3,000 accumulated, a new lifetime scholarship is instituted.

  • We provide comprehensive annual reports detailing donations received, investments made, income generated, and the selection process of awardees.
  • Donors receive specific information about the students benefiting from their contributions, fostering a personal connection to the impact of their generosity.
