Since 1975, the Aligarh Alumni Association of Washington, DC (AAADC) has stood as a vibrant torchbearer of the Aligarh spirit—carrying forward a rich legacy of knowledge, culture, community service, and educational empowerment.
Founded by a passionate group of alumni and well-wishers of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), AAADC is a non-profit, non-political, tax-exempt, charitable, educational, social, and cultural organization. While deeply rooted in the values of the Aligarh Movement, our arms are open to all individuals—alumni and non-alumni alike—who believe in the power of education, community, and culture.
Whether you’ve walked the halls of AMU or simply admire its mission from afar—Aligarh leaves an imprint that lasts a lifetime. That’s why wherever a few “Aligs” gather, the spirit of connection, camaraderie, and contribution thrives—and the Washington Metropolitan Area is no exception.

The spark that ignited AAADC came from a simple yet powerful idea: stay connected, serve others, and honor the alma mater that shaped us. A humble gathering in 1975 became a flourishing community that continues to inspire generations.
Our commitment to inclusive identity led us to move beyond traditional “Old Boys Associations.” We became the Aligarh Alumni Association, welcoming voices and talents from every background and gender—a first of its kind in North America.
Since its inception in 1975, our Sir Syed Day Mushaira has grown into a cherished tradition, attracting legendary poets from around the world. It’s more than just a poetic gathering—it’s a cultural movement that sparked a wave of literary revival and community bonding across North America.
